Book your river cruise through France

The Rh么ne (or Rhone), with a length of more than 800 km from its source in the Swiss Alps to its mouth on the Mediterranean Sea, is one of the major rivers of France. Although our river cruise does not sail on it in its entire length, this trip will let you discover the widest and most awesome stretch of its course, from the magnificent city of Lyon to its mouth in the region of Provence-Alpes-C么te d'Azur.

River cruises on the Rh么ne to discover Lyon

Our suggested river cruise through inner France begins and finishes in Lyon, France's third city and a destination that you will basically discover at the end the route, when the boat A-Rosa Stella will have completed its route. It will be your conveyance, resting place and floating restaurant for 8 days.

Lyon was founded by the Romans. Even today, evidence of the Romans being there can be seen, especially in its ancient theater placed on the charming Fourvi猫re Hill. However, during your visit to Lyon, you will be able to find more places of great interest and beauty, spread out in the quarter of Old Lyon (Vieux Lyon), a medieval and Renaissance district, and the Croix Rousse, a place that makes you realize about the importance of the silk industry in the past.

Marseilles, where the river cruise ends

As we pointed before, France's third city is Lyon. The second one is Marseilles, a place that you will visit thanks to this river cruise on the Rh么ne (in fact, the town is close to the river鈥檚 mouth on the Mediterranean Sea). So, take advantage of this itinerary to appreciate the rich heritage of the city.

We recommend you walk along its old maritime harbor, the lowest point of the town, and get to the highest one, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde. In any case, this is not the only church of interest, since it is worth to visit the Marseille Cathedral (Cath茅drale de la Major), a unique hybrid of Romanesque and Byzantine styles. And, of course, do not miss the palaces of Longchamp, the Bourse and the Town Hall

Other interesting sites along the river cruise on the Rh么ne

The great Rh么ne River flows through two historic cities that should be included in any tourist visit in France. We are talking about Arles and Avignon. The first one is known as the 鈥楥ity of Artists鈥 and the second one, as the 鈥楥ity of the Popes鈥. Nonetheless, both are much more than that. Arles, besides being the place where genius artists like Van Gogh or Gauguin lived, was occupied long time ago by the Romans, who bequeathed us a classical theater and an amphitheater that is currently used as a bullring. In addition, the lanes of the city center exhibit the church of St. Trophime, one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in France. On the other hand, the major tourist attraction in Avignon is the Palace of the Popes, due to its spectacular architecture and the heritage that it keeps inside. Anyhow, any trip should also include some other monuments. For instance, the Petit Palais, the Cathedral or the famous bridge of Avignon. It partially stands on the Rh么ne River, where our boat will remain moored while we will be visiting the city.

Essential visits during a river cruise on the Rh么ne

As we have already said, we will stop in big cities and towns. However, we will also discover several small villages, like Viviers, a well-preserved medieval jewel, or Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rh么ne, which is placed at the mouth of the Rh么ne River. Specifically, Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rh么ne is a strategic place to discover the most spectacular natural landscapes offered by theses river cruise vacations. For example, the Camargue, an ecological gem that is visited by hundreds of migratory birds. And there is still more to visit and admire. One of these spots is the Gorges de l'Ard猫che or the wide range of sites from the French Massif Central, near Lyon, to the region of Provence-Alpes-C么te d'Azur, in southern France. Would you like to enjoy it? It is difficult to find such a huge variety of cultural and natural places like the ones we will see during the best river cruises on the Rh么ne. You will not regret!
